What is birth photography?

Birth photography gives you a way to relive meeting your precious miracle for years to come. As a birth photographer, my job is to retell the story of your labor through pictures taken throughout the process- freezing those moments that may be hard to recall, as the time passes. Whether in the hospital or at home, natural or medicated, vaginally or cesarean- birth is miraculous, unique, and empowering.

When do you come during labor and how long do you stay after?

I ask you to call me first when you are in early labor so that I can pick up my gear and then we will keep communicating, keeping me updated into active labor. We can talk more about what that might look like, but typically I come to you when you are no longer speaking through contractions, when your contractions have picked up in intensity and you have to focus to get through them. And then I pack up after your baby has their newborn exam and have some sweet loving skin to skin time.

What is it like having you in the delivery room?

It is SO important to have someone who understands how sacred a birth space is. I am very intuitive and if you or your partner need a word of affirmation I will send you some, but for the most part I am absolutely peaceful and out of the way. With that being said, I am sometimes MORE than a birth photographer. If you need something and your support person needs to focus on you- I can be the person that peeks out and grabs a nurse. I can be a family communicator, to take that load off your partner- if that's what you need. With all that being said- if a photographer is the only thing you want me to be, then that is what I'll be.

What is pricing for birth photography?

Birth work is an on call lifestyle. I am prepped and ready for the biggest day in your life (like a wedding) but we have no idea when it will happen or how long it will take. I typically block out 2-3 weeks around your due date, to ensure I can be on call and available when the moment comes. I also have to plan care for my child during the labor. For this reason, the pricing structure is much different than a regular scheduled session. The full cost is $1,000. You can make payments in any way that works for you, but I do ask that at least 50% is paid before I block out your window of time. Any remaining balance is due before the editing process begins. You can expect the full album to be delivered within 30 days (from birth or final payment- whichever happens last).
